Invest NI’s Energy Research and Knowledge Transfer Group visit Elliot’s Hill Wind Farm
Elliott’s Hill wind farm is situated near Tildarg, Co. Antrim. It was developed in partnership with B9 Energy (O&M) Ltd, Renewable Energy Systems Ltd and constructed by Renewable Energy Systems Ltd.
Elliott’s Hill wind farm, which is owned by ScottishPower, began generating in March 1995 and is contracted to supply power under the 1993 Northern Ireland Non Fossil Fuel Obligation (NI-NFFO).
On 18th October 2007 Invest NI’s Energy Research & Knowledge Transfer Group visited Elliott’s Hill to find out more about B9 Energy’s work and the logistics of wind farm operation. The visit was prompted by the installation of 5 new Vestas V80 turbines, all 2MW each, to add to the existing 10 Vestas V39 turbines, 500kw each. This will increase the generating capacity from 5MW to 15MW.
B9 Energy (O&M) Ltd is Ireland’s leading wind farm operation & maintenance company - the world's first to achieve environmental accreditation ISO 14001. They are contracted to operate, maintain and manage 38 wind farms (569 turbines) in the UK and Ireland. They are also involved in the development of tidal stream energy, wave power, electric transport, and the anaerobic digestion of organic waste (B9 Organic Energy).
The visit not only demonstrated the technical aspects of wind power generation, but also the manufacturing supply chain opportunities associated with renewable technology that are available to NI companies.
