Invest Northern Ireland invests in NISP
Leading business representatives from across the country joined the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme at its new offices in the CIDO Innovation Centre in Craigavon on the 10th of December, made possible with funding from Invest Northern Ireland.
The funding means that NISP Northern Ireland will continue to help businesses from every commercial and industrial sector throughout the country reduce their environmental impacts and improve their bottom line. NISP is a UK-wide business opportunity programme that identifies and develops mutually profitable links between companies across all industrial sectors so that under used resources such as energy, water and materials from one company can be recovered or reprocessed and reused by others.
Olive Hill, Invest NI’s Director of Technology and Process Development, said: “Local companies can significantly improve their profitability whilst reducing their environmental impact by participating in NISP. By opening an office in Craigavon, NISP’s specialist practitioners can more easily engage with local firms and help them identify potentially lucrative opportunities to collaborate with other firms for mutual gain.“
NISP Northern Ireland was originally launched in February 2007 and already has a host of member companies from a range of sectors including food and drink, construction, engineering, textiles and waste management. Membership of NISP is free for all companies, regardless of size, turnover or sector and it is the only national industrial symbiosis initiative in the world.
Peter Laybourn, Founder of NISP and Programme Director attended the event. He said: “The opening of this office firmly establishes NISP as the UK’s leading business opportunity programme, currently helping more than 9,300 businesses improve their commerciality by optimising business resource usage.”
