Sustainable Ireland Autumn 2016

Welcome to what is a bumper Autumn issue. Inside, you’ll find a comprehensive look back at who won what and why in our annual awards; and what an evening it proved to be, with another record turn-out that was truly representative of  our innovative, forward-thinking waste management, environmental and energy sectors.

Our news content in this issue clearly demonstrates that there has been a lot happening across all areas in recent months, with more and more companies adopting an increasingly energy efficient and sustainable approach to business; it makes sound environmental and economic sense.

Those in the waste management sector are not standing still, either, as you’ll discover in this issue. They’ve been continuing to invest in their operations and expanding their customer services; we’ve been talking to some of them.

It’s good to see, too, that the Irish government continues to
support a ‘green’ agenda; its recent budget revealed  there will be an additional €24 million to expand energy efficiency programmes, but on the downside, hopes that a Renewable Heat Incentive scheme would be up and running by the end of the year have faded. While €7m has been allocated to the scheme, it will probably not get off  the ground until much later in 2017.
